Stephen Ministry
In the book of Acts, Stephen was chosen to provide caring ministry to those in need. Today, Stephen Ministers continue that legacy of compassionate, one-to-one support.
Since 1975, millions have benefited from the Christ-centered care of Stephen Ministers. At Peace Presbyterian Church, our Stephen Ministers walk alongside people who are hurting—offering a listening ear, emotional and spiritual support, and the love of Christ during difficult times.
Who Are Stephen Ministers?
Stephen Ministers are members of the congregation trained by Stephen Leaders to provide high-quality, confidential, Christ-centered care. They receive over 50 hours of training in topics such as:
Active listening
Distinctively Christian caregiving
Confidentiality
Supporting people in crisis
Knowing when and how to refer to a professional helper
Each Stephen Minister is matched with one care receiver at a time and typically meets weekly for about an hour. You do not need to be a member of Peace Presbyterian Church to receive care.
Who Are Care Receivers?
Care receivers are individuals—within the church or wider community—who are going through a crisis or life difficulty. Common reasons for receiving care include:
Grief or loss
Divorce or separation
Cancer or chronic illness
Hospitalization or recovery
Caregiver fatigue
Job loss or financial stress
Moving or life transitions
Military deployment
Spiritual crisis
Anxiety or depression
Loneliness and isolation
Care receivers first meet with a pastor or Stephen Leader, who helps assess their needs and matches them with a trained Stephen Minister. The relationship continues as long as the need persists.
Confidential. Christ-Centered. Compassionate.
Stephen Ministers are committed to confidentiality. Everything shared is kept private. Our goal is to offer a safe space for people to talk, process, and experience God’s love through another person’s presence.
